10/10/07 Coca-Cola FEMSA responds to reports of kidnapping and new threats against SINALTRAINAL union members and their families:
In response to the latest reports regarding the kidnapping of a SINALTRAINAL union member's son and new threats against SINALTRAINAL members, the independent Colombian Coca-Cola bottler, Coca-Cola FEMSA, has taken the following actions:
Reached out to the appropriate local authorities to request that they investigate the incidents and provide necessary protection to the individuals and their families;
Granted the affected workers paid leaves of absence from work;
Granted loans to install security cameras at the homes of affected workers;
Set flexible working schedules for those workers upon their return to work after their leaves of absence;
Provided individual transportation to and from work for those workers at that time.
In addition, Coca-Cola FEMSA has issued and posted new public statements condemning violence from illegal groups against union members on bulletin boards and within advertisements in local newspapers.

On Sunday, April 23, the DePaul Student Government Association met for its General Body Meeting, where the resolution passed in January 2006 to boycott Coca-Cola products, was rescinded by a vote of 10-1-3 (in favor-not in favor-abstain).

The National Association of Company Workers of Soft Drink Producers and Distributors – a union representing Colombian soft drink workers – clearly states its opposition to the tactics of the anti-Coca-Cola campaign. In a letter dated February 4, 2006, the union calls for “dialogue, discussion, agreements and the respect of the parties, seeking the mutual benefit of always maintaining good worker-company relations.”

No. 3 Most Admired Company, No. 12 in the Best Quality category, No. 10 in Best Service to Retail, and No. 11 in Social Responsibility Involvement.
