April 30, 2004 - U.S. District Court Judge Strikes Amended Complaint Filed by Plaintiffs
A U.S. District Court Judge struck an amended complaint Plaintiffs filed in an effort to reinstate The Coca-Cola Company into the lawsuit, which alleges that the Company was complicit in violence against union workers in Colombia. The Company was dismissed from the lawsuit in March 2003 based on a determination that there was no factual or legal basis for the claims.
In striking the amended complaint, the Court also warned the Plaintiffs that any steps they take in the litigation in the future must be within the bounds of the law.
The Company believes the Plaintiffs' amended complaint, filed two days before the Annual Meeting of Shareowners, was filed as a publicity stunt and had no legal basis.
